Kalotaszeg region is found in Romania, partly in Transylvania which used to be part of the Hungarian Kingdom. It is located to West from Kolozsvár. Even nowadays West-Romania is one of the location where people keep the old transylvanian hungarian folk traditions alive.

The Kalotaszeg style tablecloths have become famous for more than a century. Today they can be found in countless families' home but at the begining of their history the beauty of the tablecloths and the art of the making them was only known in Kalotaszeg.

At an early stage only the young girls' and women's blouses were decorated with handembroidering. Later skirts, other clothing and step by step tablecloths and towels became more and more fancy. Of course these were only used occasionally on holidays since people treasured these things back in those days in the poor world.
